MITCH EDEN, MJE, is an education and media consultant helping advisers and students improve themselves and their programs. He recently retired after 27 years advising, most recently at Kirkwood H.S. (MO), where he advised The Kirkwood Call newsmagazine/website and the Pioneer yearbook. Eden is a former Dow Jones News Fund National High School Journalism Teacher of the Year. He has received Youth Journalism International’s Journalism Educator of the Year, NSPA’s Pioneer Award, JEA’s Medal of Merit and SPJ’s Distinguished Teaching in Journalism Award.
In his 27 years of advising, he followed the advice of his greatest mentor, Jack Kennedy, by simply trying to do his best each day. Most days were just OK, but every once in a while he hit a home run. Or at least a ground-rule double.
He and wife Tanya have two children, Madison and Cameron.
